rui tomás and local artisans produce furniture for burel factory
Portuguese brand Burel Factory is launching a collection of three organic furniture pieces: a bookshelf, a screen and a living room. armchairDesigned by Rui Tomás. The creations are based on the brand’s core principles such as organic design, use of natural materials and collaboration with local artisans; curved forms, simple geometries and vibrant tones emerge. Furniture pieces produced entirely from natural wool, oak wood and hand-applied wax bring the essence of nature directly to our living spaces. Their low-tech structure and minimalist finish, consisting of only a few components, allow them to be easily disassembled, transported and reused, extending their lifespan. Each piece also offers a customizable palette of both fabric types, providing versatility and variety.

simple and organic forms enable customizability
Made from traditional raw materials with local craftsmanship, the Biombo Onda room divider can be easily moved to mark quiet zones. The screen is inspired by the acoustic performance of the screens from which it is made, which can absorb 95% of sound. Winner of the Reddot Award in 2023, it is versatile and can be adapted to a variety of environments, including living spaces, hospitality projects or indoor workspaces. Easy to transport disassembled and compact for storage, this piece represents environmental friendliness throughout its life cycle, with recyclable materials. Additionally, Rui Tomas And Bürel Factory Integrating a mountable/detachable system with very few components, using low-tech manufacturing methods. Its structure is made entirely of natural materials such as woolen fabric and oak wood, and is finished in a centuries-old manner with hand-applied beeswax.
Paying homage to the raw materials that give it life, the Cadeirão Pad armchair features simple geometric shapes and integrates into home, professional or hospitality environments. Designed with a focus on comfort, the seat does not require a pouffe or stool because it is close to the ground. The Estante Ilha bookcase is inspired by the idea that furniture elements can be personalized through color and adjusted to individual needs. Thanks to the shelving system of different heights, users can hide or reveal items by adjusting the burel fabric curtains that extend along the perimeter on the rails. Instead of using it next to a wall, the bookcase can be placed in the middle of the space and act as a functional divider.
